Discovering Sorolla and his online Art Exhibition

Sorolla was a great Spanish painter from Valencia, who loved to capture light in his paintings.

He was born in 1863 in the Mediterranean coast, and spent his life capturing how living next to the sea was. He is one of the strongest influences in the periods of Enlightenment and Impressionism, and his art was very important for the artistic evolution of his times to contemporary art.

The main characteristics of his art was the use of white as the main color on every painting.

He mixed different tones with white to create the luminosity inside the scene of the painting. He managed to bring sunlight and bright colors on all his works, no matter what he painted about. He loved to capture everyday routines from villagers, most of them on the beach, and how life was at his time.

He portrayed humanity and beautiful landscapes. His pieces of art were done with a fluid brushstroke and bright color which was his main contribution in developing an authentic avant-garde style when painting the cultural and philosophical concerns of the time.
