" Art Dose in Balzac's House "
ART DOSE IN BALZAC’S HOUSE
Located in the heart of the old village of Passy in the 16th arrondissement in Paris, this little house with green shutters is the only remaining of the writer’s Parisian home. He lived there from 1840 to 1847 and worked tirelessly on his big piece of art, “La Comédie Humaine” [The human Comedy].
This house, now transformed into a museum, will tell us all about Balzac’s life: manuscripts, daily items, paintings, engravings, original prints. The house-museum makes you discover areas covering 3 floors as well as a freshened-up garden that is yet still as charming.
La Maison de Balzac is now hosting the works of artist Eduardo Arroyo, who revisits Balzac's work. The exhibition The Human Comedy by Eduardo Arroyo brings together the last achievements of the Spanish painter and sculptor before his death. This moving dialogue between Balzac and Arroyo is to be discovered from February 6th to August 16th, 2020.
Through Eduardo Arroyo's Human Comedy, Balzac’s House highlights around thirty paintings, collages and drawings inspired by Balzac's novels. Literature enthusiasts can discover portraits of the French writer, representations of his emblematic characters or illustrations of the literary work. Eduardo Arroyo mixes his memories with Balzac's work, creating a unique autobiographical collection. Whether you are a fan of Balzac or an admirer of Arroyo, the exhibition at Maison de Balzac lets you discover the two artists, intimately linked by their unparalleled works.
